Govt plans to table a draft Access to Information Bill in Parliament

ISLAMABAD: The government plans to table a draft Access to Information Bill in the Parliament.

Official sources say the bill is aimed at encouraging transmission of authentic and realistic information to the people and to discourage practice of sensational news breaking.

Information Minister Pervaiz Rasheed has already invited Pakistan Broadcasting Association and All Pakistan Newspapers Society to forward their recommendations on draft Right to Information Bill. He has assured that these recommendations will be brought up during discussion in the Senate.

The sources said media is an important tool in promotion of democratic values‚ shaping up of public opinion and in removing of misconceptions.

A special software has also been developed with the aim to place details of all released public sector advertisements on the website of Press Information Department to ensure transparency.
