LAHORE:  Punjab’s Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz Sharif on Friday criticized Punjab Assembly (PA) Speaker Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for ongoing political chaos in the province.

Speaking at Aiwan-i-Iqbal in Lahore, where a special assembly session had taken place to present provincial budget for Fiscal Year 2022-23, Hamza said the constitutional crisis in the province was unprecedented.

The Punjab CM in his speech during the budget’s concluding session congratulated all the PML-N and allies’ lawmakers for their efforts in passing the provincial budget successfully. However, he said, he was not happy at the budget session being conducted in Aiwan-e-Iqbal instead of the Assembly building.

It is pertinent to mention here that Punjab’s provincial budget session was held at Aiwan-e-Iqbal instead of the Assembly building. Speaker Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Parvez Elahi – who is ally of the opposition PTI – had adjourned the assembly session several times.

Talking to the assembly members at Aiwan-e-Iqbal, Hamza Shehbaz charged the main opposition party in the assembly, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), and Punjab Assembly (PA) Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi with violating the constitution. He continued, “The Speaker kept calling and calling adjourning assembly sessions, wasting public money.”

He asserted that the PTI government had even taken away the right to receive free medical care. But starting on July 1, 2022, residents of the province will be able to buy medicines at no cost at all Punjab hospitals, he said.

The CM added that more services would be provided to the public through the health card.

He believed that PTI leaders had only mentioned a “bloody march” to preserve their political standing. He claimed that PTI employees had harmed public property inside the Red Zone in defiance of Supreme Court (SC) orders.
