IHC summons petroleum minister Friday in contempt of court case

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued another contempt of court notice to minister for petroleum Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui took up the case for hearing Wednesday.

Contempt of court notice has been issued on a petition filed by the petitioner Javed Akbar. The petitioner has taken plea in his application that petroleum minister in a press conference had made mockery of IHC orders whereby the court had granted stay order against government decision on suspension of gas supply to the areas of Rawalpindi and Islamabad region zone-1. The petitioner further said that the federal minister kept on playing politics on the matter instead of complying with the orders of the court.

During the course of hearing Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Fazlur Rehman told the court that he had not been informed by ministry of petroleum about contempt of court notice.

The court while issuing another contempt of court notice to federal minister for petroleum has summoned him on January 24.

Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui remarked “contempt of court notice is not being taken seriously. The hearing of the case was adjourned till January, 24.
