Indian Supreme Court invalidates notification of elections in Ladakh

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court of India has invalidated the notification of elections to the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council which were scheduled to be held on September 10.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the decision of the Supreme Court of India has come in the background of a petition against not allotting the election symbol of the plow to the candidates of the National Conference.

The Supreme Court's order comes as a big relief to the National Conference as its candidates have been allowed to use "plough" as an election symbol.

The Supreme Court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the Ladakh administration and directed the Election Commission to issue a fresh notification regarding the elections within a week.
