ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has given two weeks time to intelligence agencies for making further investigation in the light of inquiry commission and DPO report and affidavit of Abdul Wahid in missing student Attiq ur Rehman case.

A 3-member bench of Supreme Court (SC) headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Tassaduq Hussain Jillani heard the case Thursday in respect of student Attiq ur Rehman who had gone missing from Feeroze wala Lahore

Additional Attorney General (AAG) Tariq Khokhar told the court the affidavit of Abdul Wahid and reports of inquiry commission and DPO reflect that Attiq ur Rehman case is case of enforced disappearance. The matter in this respect has been placed before defence secretary under the court orders, he added. The intelligence agencies included in joint investigation team have sought two weeks time for more investigation into the matter.

This request was also made by Irfan Bhatti, representative of ministry of defence. Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan remarked “your stance has been stated by AAG Tariq Khokhar. We cannot give time at your request.

Rai Ahmad Nawaz Kharal told the court intelligence agencies only seek time repeatedly. Please don’t give too much time to them.

However the court gave two weeks time to intelligence agencies to investigate the matter at the request of AAG Tariq Khokhar.

It may be recalled that Attiq ur Rehman who was student of Bsc final year was sitting and eating chips alongwith his friend nearby a petrol pump close to Feeroze wala police station on December, 7, 2012. Some persons clad in plain clothes and police uniform turned up there in vehicles and took away him forcibly. Seven persons including owner of tuck shop, PSO salesman, helper, tyre shop owner and friend Wahid are eyewitnesses to this incident.

Inquiry Commission constituted under Justice (Retd) Javed Iqbal had got written the order in the presence of Lt Col Abdul Mannaf Kahot of ISI, Hamid of Military Intelligence (MI) and Maj Attique Arshid of Intelligence Bureau (IB) remarking that this case is obviously case of enforced disappearance. The same report was given by DPO. However defence secretary is of the view this is not the case of enforced disappearance and the charges being placed on ISI and MI on their involvement in this matter are false charges. Abdul Wahid friend of Attiq ur Rehman had said in his affidavit he was lifted alongwith his friend but he was released after three months and ten days.
