LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: Investigation has been launched against former Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Chaudhry Pervez Elahi and his son Moonis Elahi on their alleged involvement in massive corruption committed during the last 35 years.

Pervez Elahi is said to have minted Rs 30 billion through corruption and corrupt practices in different projects during his 169 stint as CM during Imran Khan era besides making huge investment in multiple projects in Spain.

According to Anti Corruption Punjab sources Pervez Elahi and Moonis Elahi remained involved in several corruption cases since the last 35 years.

Most recent case in which Chaudhry Pervez Elahi is under arrest is of illegal recruitment in Punjab Assembly (PA). Pervez Elahi has been running the affairs of PA directly or indirectly through his loyalist employees since 1990's. He filled the assembly with loyalist employees in sheer breach of rules and regulations.

Anti corruption Punjab registered FIR on June 3, 2023 against EX-Speaker Ch Pervez Elahi and others for illegal process of recruitment of officials in PA. 500 new posts were created in Assembly secretariat in the name of new building.

The posts were created on permanent basis directly without proper justification. Fake numbers were awarded many among the 500 selected candidates. Eligibility criterion was also created to favor the family and political candidates.
