Jalil Abbas Jilani assumes charge as ambassador to US

WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s newly appointed ambassador to the United States, Jalil Abbas Jilani has taken charge of the post after arrival here.

Jilani will begin assignment and lead diplomatic efforts towards improvement in relations between the two countries.

Until his appointment as Islamabad’s ambassador in Washington this month, Jilani was serving as foreign secretary of Pakistan, the country’s top career diplomat.

Previously, Jilani served as diplomat at the Pakistan embassy in Washington from 1995 to 1999. Ambassador Jilani’s previous assignment includes Deputy High Commissioner in New Delhi from 1999 to 2003 and ambassador to European Union and Australia.
