JI believes army will remain silent on Musharraf trial: Liaqat Baloch

LAHORE: Secretary General, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Liaqat Baloch, has said that the army should remain silent over the constitutional proceedings against the adventurer (military dictator Pervez Musharraf).

In a statement here on Monday, he said that former army chief, Gen, Kayani had restored the armys image with great efforts and there was a positive efforts to guarantee armed forces neutral role even in the most difficult times. Therefore, the armed forces wont be partial in any manner.

He said that a negative impression had been created about the armed forces because of the former dictator Pervez Musharraf and the armed forces could not support the man responsible for Nawab Akbar Bugtis murder, the May 12 killings in Karachi, besides the subversion of the constitution and the humiliation of the judiciary.

The JI Secretary General said that the judiciary was independent and Pervez Musharraf must be tried on merit, under article 6 of the constitution.

He said, if a military dictator takes some unconstitutional step as an army chief, the army as a disciplined force, remains silent. Therefore, the army should remain silent over the constitutional proceedings against the adventurer.
