LAHORE: A spokesman of the Jamaat e Islami has strongly contradicted the reports in a section of the press that three names have been recommended for the election of the JI Ameer for the period 2014-2019. The spokesman said that the procedure for the election of the Ameer, JI, was clearly laid down in the JI constitution. The JI Ameer was elected through secret ballot for a period of five years and three names were recommended by the JI central Shoora, for the guidance of the Arakan ( Members of the JI).

The spokesman said that there had been no meeting of the JI central Shoora recently as such, the reports of such recommendations were incorrect and a concoction.

He said that the JI central Shoora was to meet at Mansoora on January 2 next and it would appoint the Nazim e Intikhab (election body chief) who would supervise the election for the JI Ameer.

The spokesman appealed to the media not to circulate such baseless reports.
