Khawaja Izharul Hasan sustains critical injuries in accident near Karachi’s Toll Plaza

KARACHI: Muttahida Qoumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) senior leader Khawaja Izharul Hasan suffered multiple injuries in a road accident near Toll Plaza, Karachi on early hours of Sunday.

Soon after the road mishap, party leaders Amir Khan, Faisal Sabzwari, Agha Khan and Sanjay Parwani reached the hospital.

Sabzwari said that the accident occurred near Toll Plaza. “At least three personal guards of Khawaja Izhar were also injured in the accident.” Those injured have been shifted to a private hospital in Karachi.

The MQM leader’s life is out of danger, however, his guard’s condition is still critical, Sabzwari added.

The accident happened when Khawaja Izhar was returning from Ghotki after meeting Prime Minister Imran Khan who was in the district of Sindh to address a public address.

According to the MQM leader, Amir Khan, the traffic accident took place after Hasan was returning from Ghotki, following a meeting with the prime minister.

A squad vehicle also hit Khwaja Izhar’s car from the backside after the initial accident. The hit resulted in more damage.

“Khwaja Izhar has received deep wounds in the head but his life is out of danger,” Khan confirmed, adding that he found out about the incident at 3:00 AM.

Three gunmen were also injured in the accident, out of which two are said to be in a critical condition.

Moreover, MPA Sanjay Perwani who was traveling with Hasan at the time of the accident said, he was traveling in the last car.

He shared, that there was a ditch dug up on the road due to some construction work nearby. “There were no signs indicating that a ditch was there. Due to the construction work, the driver could not see the ditch and the car crashed,” Perwani said. “There was an alternative route near the site of the accident but there was no sign telling us that.”

MQM-P Organisation Restoration Committee Chief Dr Mohammad Farooq Sattar also expressed concern over the injuries caused of the MQM leader in the traffic accident and wished him a speedy recovery.
