KP govt. EC put on notice on PTI petition seeking timely election for KP assembly

PESHAWAR: Peshawar High Court (PHC) has sought reply from KP government and Election Commission (EC) on next hearing regarding PTI petition seeking timely election in the province.

PTI petition seeking holding of election in 90 days for KP assembly came up for hearing before PHC Tuesday.

PTI leader Shaukat Yousufzai and Shah Farman appeared in the court.

The counsel for the petitioner said it is responsibility of governor to give date for holding election as per constitution following the dissolution of PTI government in KP. Holding election within 90 days after dissolution of assembly is must.

Justice M Attique Shah remarked it is must to hold election within 90 days as per law. What will happen if governor fails to discharge his constitutional obligations.

The counsel for petitioner replied governor said in his reply that law and order be kept in view. It is matter of law and order. It is difficult to hold election in this situation.

PHC directed Advocate General (AG) we need your reply. We issue notice to governor and election commission. We will hear the case after reply is received.

The court issued notice to provincial government and EC besides seeking reply from them.
