PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has decided to continue anti-polio campaign in the province despite terrorist attacks on health workers.

In an interview with a private TV channel on Wednesday, KP Health Minister Shaukat Yousufzai said that polio drive would not be halted despite martyrdom of many polio workers.

He said that the provincial government would not be deterred by attacks and save children from being crippled.

“We have prepared a new plan to eradicate the disease from the province,” he said. Under the new plan, a special anti-polio campaign would be undertaken in Peshawar on every Sunday.

A special force would be set up to protect health workers, he said, adding that PTI’s volunteers and retired security personnel would be hired to complete the tough task.

The health minister said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has asked for Rs4 billion from the federal government to implement the plan.
