Lahore Packages Mall state land sale, rent case: SC seeks detailed report from Punjab govt on sale and rent of the state land

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has sought detailed report within four weeks from the Punjab government with regard to rent and sale of the land during the hearing of the case pertaining to rent and sale of state land under the possession of Lahore Packages Mall.

A 3-member bench of SC presided over by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Gulzar Ahmad took up the case for hearing Monday.

Additional Advocate General (AAG) Punjab Qasim Chohan told the court during the hearing the court had summoned chief secretary Punjab but he is unable to appear in the court being sick. Member colonies has undergone open heart surgery. The lawyer Dr Pervez ul Hassan has also been infected by corona virus.

CJP Gulzar Ahmad while expressing displeasure remarked as to why the rent of the land has not been determined so far. What court had sought should be filed in writing. Court’s orders be implemented and report thereof be submitted.

The court while ordering senior member board of revenue to appear on next hearing adjourned the hearing of the case for one month.

It may be mentioned that Punjab government had leased out 229 kanal, 19 marlas land to packages Mall in 1985 for industrial use. The lease of the land had expired in 2015.

The court has already issued orders to determine and recover the rent of the land from Packages Mall since 2015.
