LHC moved for implementation of SC orders to hold election for Punjab Assembly

LAHORE: A miscellaneous petition has been filed in Lahore High Court (LHC) with regard to implementation of Supreme Court (SC) order for holding election in Punjab.

The petition has been filed by citizen Munir Ahmad through Azhar Siddique advocate.

Election commission, federal government, Punjab government, chief secretary and IG Punjab have been made respondents in the petition.

The petitioner has taken plea that as per SC decision the president has fixed the date for holding election for Punjab assembly. SC has already given order to all institutions including care taker government to extend cooperation to Election Commission for holding polls in Punjab.

It has been said further in the petition it is binding on all institutions to cooperate with election commission under article 220 of the constitution. Chief secretary Punjab and IG Punjab have appeared in the court and held out assurance for extending cooperation.

It has been prayed in the petition the court should order all the institutions and care taker government to cooperate with election commission in holding election.
