LHC orders to suspend commercial activities at 10 PM

ISLAMABAD: Lahore High Court (LHC) has ordered the closure of commercial activities at 10 PM for prevention of smog.According to media reports, it is said in court decision that CCPO Lahore should implement order to stop commercial activities at 10 PM. Chief Minister's Secretary should give directives to CCPO Lahore to take steps to control smog.Administration of Lahore and government should issue notification in this regard.LHC Judge Justice Shahid Karim has issued written order on petitions of others including citizen Haroon Farooq.Court said that notification of work from home for 2 days in a week should be issued to all private institutions and banks.Court has ordered DG Environment to re-seal the industrial units which were sealed due to pollution and then de-sealed.In the decision, Court has also ordered to take action against officials of the environment department who de-sealed and asked for report on sealing the factories on next hearing.It is also said in written decision that actions should be continued against those parking in green belt.The farmhouse damaging the green belt should be demolished and a report regarding Miyawaki Forest should be submitted to court.A meeting was also held under Chief Secretary Punjab regarding smog in which progress was reviewed on projects of artificial rain, installation of smog reduction tower in Lahore.The Secretaries of Environment Protection, agriculture, finance and relevant departments. Officials of Federal and Ministry institutions participated in the meeting.It was decided to establish a working group for implementation of project of artificial rain.Working group consists of representatives of Federal and provincial departments and institutions related to research.
