LHC takes notice of acid attack victim

LAHORE: Lahore High Court, Friday, took notice on a press report that a man attacked with acid three months ago died at Hospital. District & Sessions Judge, Multan has been directed to look into the matter and submit a detailed report regarding steps taken by the local police along with his own comments.

According to details, police told press that the deceased, Muhammad Zahid, 21, resident of Gaelaywal in Lodhran district, was being treated for acid burns. He had been attacked by his paternal uncle, Abdul Majeed.

According to police, Majeed wanted his 44-year-old daughter to marry Zahid. When Zahid refused the proposal six months ago his relations with his uncle deteriorated. Three months ago Majeed invited Zahid to his house and again asked him to marry his daughter when Zahid refused to do so he tied him up and threw acid on him. Zahid was taken to Bahawal Victoria hospital where he was found to have lost his eyes and sustained 80 per cent burns.

A case had been registered against the accused, however, he was still at large and police were looking for him. LHC Complaint Cell took notice of the news on administrative side and directed the concerned D&SJ to look into the matter and submit report in a week.

Meanwhile, Chief Justice Lahore High Court, Lahore, Justice Umar Ata Bandial has declared *24th of December (Tuesday), 2013 as local holiday for Lahore High Court, Lahore Principal Seat as well as Civil & Sessions Courts in Lahore on account of Urs Hazrat Data Gunj Bakhsh (R.A).
