Mudariba scandal: NAB to file interim reference against Mufti Ehsan

Rawalpindi: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is being going to file an Interim Reference against Mufti Muhammad Ehsan-ul-Haq and his directors in Accountability Court, Islamabad, in connection with Mudariba scandal.

The NAB, Rawalpindi, started inquiry against Mufti Muhammad Ihsan-ul-Haq, Chief Executive M/s Fayyazi Gujranwala industries Pvt. Ltd. and others on complaints of general public as well as Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP).

During inquiry, the accused Mufti Muhammad Ihsan-Ul-Haq was arrested in April 2013.

838 claimants involving amount Rs 552,439,700 submitted their claims to NAB Rawalpindi.

The accused came forward and opted for Voluntary Return (VR), offered Rs 446,610,979 in the shape of 20 x Pay Orders in the name of Chairman NAB and promised that he would pay remaining due amount Rs 105,828,720 within one month.

After approval of VR, the accused Mufti Muhammad Ehsan was discharged under section 25 (a) of NAO 1999. After lapse of due time, the accused was issued notice to appear and deposit the same but he absconded. The accused after default of his VR was re-arrested in September 2013 and presently under judicial custody at Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi.

Meanwhile, more claimants started submissions of their claims and presently claims of 7969 claimants involving Rs 5.9 billion have been received at NAB Rawalpindi. During scrutiny of record of claimants, it has been found that 39 ex directors / agents of Mufti Muhammad Ehsan-ul-Haq, chief executive of M/s Fayyazi Gujranwala industries Pvt. Ltd. have collected the amounts from general public.

Due to the efforts of Investigation Team, following recoveries have been made so far, Rs 446,610,979 in the shape of cash, two residential houses situated at Islamabad, two medicine industries namely Spadix pharmaceuticals & Goodman laboratories situated at Rawat, Rawalpindi, a residential plot measuring 16 Kanals situated at Gujranwala 4 costly vehicles have been recovered from one Mian Moin Aslam, who received cash and vehicles from family of Mufti for his release. All above mentioned immoveable properties have been marked caution u/s 23 of NAO 1999.
