ISLAMABAD: The Sub Committee of the Senate Functional Committee on Human Rights, headed by its convener Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, will hold a public hearing on the issue of Environmental degradation in Islamabad on January 24, 2014 at Parliament House, Islamabad.

The public hearing “Threat to Islamabad’s Environment: what is to be done” will deliberate on the compliance report of CDA submitted to Supreme Court following the Supreme Court’s judgement on Suo Moto Margalla case filed by Senator Mushahid Hussain, on preservation and protection of Margalla Hills National Park, pollution caused by local industries in Islamabad and the threats posed by plastic bags and garbage in Islamabad.

Environmentalists, civil society representatives and intellectuals have been invited to present their view point on the issue of pollution and its hazardous impacts on the health of the people.

Senator Mushahid has said that environmental degradation is a serious issue which needs immediate attention of the policy makers to overcome the negative impacts as it is further contributing to global warming and climate change, and has potential to destroy the beauty and ecosystem of one of the world’s prettiest capitals.

He observed that deliberation of subcommittee would provide a way forward for efficient policy making and creating awareness among the people on a larger scale.

For the first time, according to Senator Mushahid, the Right to Clean & Green Islamabad is being considered a fundamental right of all citizens of Islamabad.
