ISLAMABAD: Opposition leader in National Assembly, Syed Khurshid Shah has said that according to Constitution, Musharraf can be trialled in civil court over the imposition of emergency on November 03, 2007.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday in National Press Club, he said: “If he had committed military crime then he could be trailed in military court.” He admitted that vibrant media and politicians played an iconic role for continuation of democracy, adding that print media has its own place and importance even today.

Talking about participation of upcoming NA session, opposition leader said that opposition will ultimately participate in next assembly’s session, adding if government will act like circus it would be responded accordingly, he added.

“Politician does not fear or escapes from scenario but Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) don’t believe on political confrontation and long march politics,” Syed Khurshid Shah mentioned.

He said that there is a lot of difference between politician and dictator as politician has tolerance while dictator has not, adding all former dictators had same thinking and they demoralized democracy in order to prolong their reign.

“Dictator neither has vision like politician nor does he has courage to compete politically that is why Musharraf preferred to go to hospital rather than to present before court,” Shah added.

To a question, PPP stalwart said that he will not want to be a prime minister of Pakistan. Talking about reaction of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Khurshid Shah added that MQM is with government and how can it label allegations over itself. Smam Bukhari has said that media’s role in strengthening democracy is not less than politicians.
