ISLAMABAD: Federal minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination, Riaz Pirzada has recommended ending nationwide toll tax on highways and roads, absorbing this taxation through ‘road tax on petro- products’.

The Tuesday’s summary by Inter-Provincial coordination Committee is expected to yield revenue worth Rs 20 billion annually to government, while it has been expressed that revenues from toll tax benefited only few in private sector, instead of going to National Exchequer’s kitty, without being (cannot be) utilized for any of developmental projects.

The new recommendation if carried out, envisages an increase of Rs 1.00 to Rs 2.50 per liter on petrol and diesel.
