New sanitation system to be launched from February

RAWALPINDI: New sanitation system will be launched in Rawalpindi city from February. The Rs 1.25 billion annual contract for carrying out cleanliness work and lifting garbage has been awarded to a Turkish company while the government used to spend only Rs 56 billion under this head annually before awarding this contract to Turkish company. These expenses included salary of 700 officers and sanitary workers. This project is now being handed over to private sector completely. Turkish company has started recruiting sanitary workers on daily wages. Under new system garbage will be lifted from the city on daily basis. The regular sanitary workers will not be sacked in new system.
