No govt officer should perform hajj at govt expenses: PAC

ISLAMABAD: Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has recommended no government officer should perform Hajj at government expenses.

PAC met here Wednesday under its chairman Syed Khurshid Shah in parliament house to review audit objections for the year 1998-99 in respect of ministry of information and broadcasting.

On inquiring from the committee DG Radio told that he had performed Hajj at government expenses but he had returned all the amount incurred by him in this connection on return from Hajj being objected by the ministry. Committee said no government officer should perform Hajj at government expenses.

Sheikh Rashid member of the committee said several employees are receiving salary less than 4200 in radio and the committee be informed how many employees are getting pay less than Rs 4200.

Khurshid Shah told the committee that Supreme Court (SC) had given the decision that if registrar has to be called then court’s decision will have to be challenged. Parliament cannot undo SC verdict. No decision has been taken so far to file appeal plea in this regard.
