Pak-Turk school students donate Rs 1 million for typhoon relief

ISLAMABAD: Students of Pak-Turk School have donated Rs one million from their pocket money and savings for the children affected by the typhoon that ravaged Philippines in November.

Details said, the administration of Pak-Turk International Schools and Colleges organised a successful fundraising campaign soon after the Typhoon Haiyan to help the humanity during which students from the pre-school to college participated with enthusiasm.

On Sunday, Director Pak-Turk Schools Kamil Ture while speaking at the conclusion ceremony of the campaign said that the step was taken as part of humanitarian service and to meet critical humanitarian needs which is a vital component of our education system.

We want to lift sense of responsibility among students and provide them an opportunity to serve humanity selflessly which will help transform them into noble citizens, he added.

Chairman Pak-Turk Unal Tosur said that the typhoon that killed and injured thousands, washed away over a million homes putting 1.5 million children at risk of malnutrition was a tragedy that cannot be ignored.

Later, Tosur handed over the money to Ozcan Inan, Country Representative of the Kimse Yok Mu Solidarity and Aid Association; a UN accredited Turkish NGO engaged in relief operations worldwide.
