UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan has called for steps to make peacekeeping missions more effective in responding to conflict and post-conflict situations.

The call was made at a high-level seminar on UN peacekeeping operations jointly organized by the Permanent Mission of Pakistan and the United Nations Foundation‚ a New York-based think-tank.

Presiding over the concluding session‚ Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Nations Masood Khan said peacekeeping is truly the sheet anchor of the Security Council.

In a message‚ UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said that analysis and adjustments in peacekeeping are needed to keep pace with the growing complexity of peacekeeping mandate.
