Pakistan has right to produce nuclear electricity: Ahsan

CHASHMA: Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal said Pakistan being a legitimate nuclear power has every right to produce nuclear electricity for economic development of the country.

He was speaking on the occasion of dome placement of Chashma-IV nuclear power plant in Chashma on Thursday.

Ahsan Iqbal said the government is looking for installing more nuclear power plants to overcome the power shortage.

He said for this purpose PC-1 of three sites have been finalized by the Central Development Working Party and will soon be sent to Executive Committee of National Economic Council for approval.

The Minister said PC-1 for another site of nuclear power plant at Muzaffargarh has also been approved.

He said Chashma area will become hub of nuclear power generation when all the four power plants begin power production.

Ahsan Iqbal said the PML (N) government is focusing on strengthening the national economy as we live in the age of economic competition. He said security‚ energy and taxation problems are being addressed to enhance the GDP to 7-8 percent.

The Chashma-IV nuclear power plant is being constructed with the joint venture of Chinese company China National Nuclear Cooperation and Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission.

Chashma-III nuclear power plant is already under construction and C-III and C-IV plants would add about six hundred and forty megawatt electricity to the national grid by 2016.
Earlier‚ in his welcome address‚ Chairman Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission Dr. Ansar Parvez said after the dome placement of the C-4 ‚ the project will enter into the installation process.

He said the project will start producing electricity by 2016.

Speaking on the occasion‚ head of Chinese delegation and chief accountant CNNC‚ Li JI Ze said Pakistan and China are working for the peaceful utilization of nuclear energy.
He said construction of these power plants is reflection of warm and friendly relationship between the two countries.
