Passport offices to be established at every district headquarters: Nisar

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Ch. Nisar Ali Khan has said that state-of-the-art passport offices would be established at every district headquarters.

He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the newly constructed permanent building of the Regional Passport Office in Rawalpindi this afternoon.

The Interior Minister said eleven more offices‚ which were under the process of being established for years‚ would be made operational in different parts of the country in coming months.

He said passport offices at Abbottabad and Bannu would start operating in about two months. Passport offices at nine other cities including Mirpur‚ Muzaffarabad‚ Sialkot‚ Sukkur and Bahawalpur would also be made established soon.

The Minister said the applicants will have to come to the passport office for photograph and thumb impression and after paying some extra charges their passports would be delivered at home.

He said the PPP government left a backlog of eight hundred thousand passports. He said half of the backlog was cleared during caretaker set up while the present government has cleared the remaining half.
