Peace evades Karachi as violence claims 9 more lives

KARACHI: The mercenary killers are still at large playing with the lives of innocent citizens in the metropolis as another nine people including a police officer and a cop were gunned down during the last 24 hours.

In a drive-by ambush, four gunmen riding two motorcycles, sprayed bullets at the vehicle of former SHO Korangi Industrial Area Anwar Jaffery, killing him on the spot and wounding his driver Pasha, according to SP Korangi Usman Bajwa.

In a frenzied rush towards the hospital, the vehicle carrying members of Jaffery’s bereaved family met an accident near Korangi Crossing.

Meantime, assassins clad in police uniform, opened gunfire at on-patrol police party near Islam Chowk of Orangi Town, killing a cop, Mahboob and a passer-by Sabir Hussain.

In other violence and firing incidents in different areas of the city, six people including a woman were shot to death.

It should be mentioned here that 59 police officers and cops were targeted in the first two months and 20 days of the current year.
