PEMRA bans broadcasting IK’s speeches

Islamabad: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has banned broadcasting of Imran Khan’s speeches and press conference on Saturday.

According to the statement released by PEMRA, the ban on showing Imran Khan’s speeches has been imposed under PEMRA Ordinance 2002.

Imran Khan made baseless accusations against national institutions during the long march.

It has been further said that Imran Khan’s speeches were aired in talk shows without editorial supervision, spreading hatred among the people.

“Consequently, after analyzing content of the speeches made by Imran Khan aired by various satellite TV channels, it has been observed that the licensees have been failed to comply with the above referred provisions of laws as well as the orders of the Hon’ble Courts, and to use delay mechanism effectively and to ensure effective Editorial Control, therefore, the competent authority i.e. Chairman PEMRA in view of the above referred reasons, in exercise of delegated powers of the Authority vested in Section 27(a) of the PEMRA Ordinance 2002 as amended by PEMRA (Amendment) Act 2007, hereby prohibits broadcast and re-broadcast of speech(es)/press conferences of Imran Khan on all satellite TV channels with immediate effect” stated PEMRA press statement.
