People are dying due to polluted water, court will not allow it: CJP

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Tasadduq Hussain Jillani has remarked people are dying owing to contaminated water and the court will not allow it.

He further remarked “ The project for cleansing Manchar lake from pollution was to be completed in 2008. But as to why it has not been accomplished so far. It seems as if clean drinking water is not being made available to the people. As to why ministry of finance is not releasing funds in this connection. People are dying due to polluted water. We will not allow it”.

A 3-member bench of SC headed by CJP Tasadduq Hussain Jillani took up for hearing Manchar lake pollution case here Tuesday.

Project director Zahir Shah appeared before the court. He told 67 percent work of the project has been completed and the remaining work is not being completed due to non availability of funds. 6 plants of clean drinking water each were installed by Sindh government and WAPDA. Summary for installation of more plants has been sent to chief minister Sindh.

The court inquired if the clean drinking water is being supplied to all the people. The court was told that it was being provided to some people. This facility has not reached so far to all people so far.

The court ordered Sindh government to complete project for cleansing Manchar Lake from pollution soon. Finance ministry should release funds so that the people could be secured from contaminated water, court further ordered. The court adjourned the hearing of the case till January, 27.
