Promotion of education top priority: President

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain has said the government accords top priority to the promotion of education in the country and is committed to allocate more resources for this sector. He was talking to a delegation of Britain’s International Development Agency headed by Richard Montgomery in Islamabad on Wednesday.

Matters related to UK’s assistance to Pakistan in various fields and different projects undertaken with the help the agency in Pakistan were discussed at the meeting. Richard Montgomery‚ apprised the President about the agency‚ its role and assistance being provided to Pakistan through DFID in diverse fields especially in education and health sectors.

Commenting on the Pak- UK bilateral ties‚ the President appreciated UK’s development assistance of 1.174 billion pounds to Pakistan in different sectors‚ especially‚ education & health since 2008 he underlined the need for more UK’s cooperation and assistance to meet the growing energy requirements of the country.

The President said the agency will be facilitated. Malaysian High Commissioner to Pakistan also called on the President. They discussed bilateral relations and economic cooperation between the two countries.
