ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has sought statement filed by NAB in Accountability Court (AC) on the petition seeking removal of Anwar Majid name from ECL.
Anwar Majid is close aide of former president Asif Ali Zardari.
The court maintained SC had placed Anwar Majid name in ECL as it was there in NAB reference. We can not issue order unless NAB accepts it. Otherwise decision will have to be given after hearing the case in details.
The case came up for hearing before a 3-member bench of SC presided over by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial Monday.
During the hearing of the case NAB prosecutor told the court NAB has written letter for removal of name of Anwar Majeed from ECL.
The CJP inquired has that letter been shown to counsel of Anwar Majeed.
The counsel for Anwar Majeed told the court that accountability court has sent Anwar Majeed case to banking court. NAB has no objection over his going abroad. If court gives order then my client wants to go abroad for treatment.
The CJP remarked if NAB gives statement that case of Anwar Majeed does not come in its jurisdiction then we give order.
The counsel Munir A Malik said my client age is 81 years who needs immediate surgery.
The CJP remarked the decision for sending the case to banking court will have been given after NAB statement.
The court while summoning the statement given by NAB in Accountability court adjourned the hearing of the case for one day.
