ISLAMABAD: Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al Faisal will be visiting Pakistan on Jan 6 on a trip which is being viewed as one carrying an important message to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from the kingdom’s leadership. Foreign Ministry sources confirmed that the Saudi foreign minister will be holding talks with Prime Minister Sharif and the premier’s advisor on foreign policy and national security Sartaj Aziz.

The coming meeting will be the first high-level contact between the two countries since the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz came to power. Besides bilateral matters‚ Saudi Foreign Minister will also discuss Afghan and regional situation including post-foreign troops withdrawal from that country.

He will discuss ways to further expanding Pak-Saudi ties and enhancing bilateral cooperation in various fields. It is also expected that both the sides will review the suspended Taliban-US dialogue process for Afghan reconciliation.

Faisal’s visit can be viewed in the light of latest developments in the treason case against former dictator Pervez Musharraf who is regarded as close to the Saudi regime and sources said the issue is likely to come under discussion.

However, Saudi embassy in Islamabad denied such reports saying that the visit is preplanned and its nothing to do with Musharraf issue. The Kingdom embassy clarified that Musharraf issue is internal issue of Pakistan and KSA would not believe to interfere in internal matter of any country.
