SC directs Sindh govt to present layout, site plan of project for making Manchar lake pollution free

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has directed Sindh government to present lay out and site plan of the project aimed at making Manchar lake pollution free.

The court also ordered Sindh government to take action within 15 days against the persons found involved in causing pollution within in Manchar lake and submit report thereof before it.

A 3-member bench of SC headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Tasadduq Hussain Jillani took up Manchar lake pollution case for hearing Wednesday.

Justice Amir Hani Muslim remarked “the way Sindh government is engaged in desilting the lake and overcoming pollution therein, is so slow paced as it seems that it can take more than 10 years to end pollution.

The court was told during the hearing of the case that a canals project is being worked out to make the lake pollution free and efforts are underway to materialize this project.

The court was told RBOD to treatment plant will be completed till 2014. Irrigation secretary told its lines have reached Gharo.

Justice Amir Hani Muslim remarked “ what you are talking about. You have not gone ahead of Jamshoro. Only billionaires are being benefited from this project.

Secretary irrigation said “we can present lay out plan and site plan of the project in the court.

CJP remarked “ please bring site plan of this project and tell us when it will be completed. Name and list of the persons from whom land has been acquired and compensation was paid to them be presented to the court.

Justice Amir Hani remarked “ this is not a separate project, It is a mutual contract and not a single inch land was acquired. Site plan, lay out plan of the project, date of completion of work and details of the compensation paid to the persons from whom the land was acquired be presented in the court within 15 days.
