SC rejects recovery report of PU missing student

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) rejecting the recovery report regarding Punjab University’s (PU) missing student has ordered the secretary defence to present the detailed report before the court in 12 days.

On Wednesday, a 3-member bench of SC headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani issued this order in connection with the case of Punjab Universitys BSc Engineering student Ateeq-ur-Rehman who went missing from Feroz Wala Sheikhupura.

During hearing, Additional Attorney General (AAG) Tariq Khokhar appeared before the court and said, Ateeq-ur-Rehman was picked up on July 2012 nearby his house and police station when he was eating chips sitting in the tuck shop of petrol pump along with his friend Abdul Wahid.

He said, his friend (Abdul Wahid) was released after 4 months but Ateeq-ur-Rehman is still missing.

Ateeq-ur-Rehman’s friend gave the statement 7 vehicles of police and commandos took us to undisclosed location; however both of us were kept on separate places.

He said, He has been released but his friend has been not and personnel who picked them were wearing police and commandos uniform.

On this court said When all evidences and witnesses are present that which intelligence department has picked Ateeq-ur-Rehman then why his recovery has not been made possible yet

Court said, the commission constituted for the recovery of missing persons has declared missing of Ateeq-ur- Rehman’s case of forced uplifting, while Interior Ministry has also submitted its report in commission.

AAG more said, police has said that Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has been constituted regarding this case and it is working also, while Defense Ministry has reported that ISI and MI do not hold any information about Ateeq-ur-Rehman.

He said, defence ministry has stated that ISI and MI have not picked Ateeq-ur-Rehman, while commission on missing persons has declared this incident as case of forced uplifting.

On this court ordered Secretary Defense to submit the detailed report in court regarding missing of youth in 12 days. Further hearing of case will be conducted after 12 days.
