SC wraps up review petitions about Grand Hayat hotel being in-fructuous

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has wrapped up review petitions about constitution avenue one (Grand Hayat Hotel) being in- fructuous.

A 3-member bench of SC presided over by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial took up the case for hearing Thursday.

CDA counsel told the court during the hearing of the case this case was already heard by three judges. Now bench will have to be increased as per law.CDA review petition has now become in-fructuous. CDA has sealed the building by cancelling the lease.

The counsel for Grand Hayat hotel took the plea our review petition contains four points. CDA executed lease agreement of Rs 4 billion. The matter came in SC then the court directed to deposit Rs 17 billion in 8 years.

Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan remarked SC order is very clear. CDA could cancel lease on defaulting on one installment.

The counsel for Grand Hayat hotel told the court it has become impossible for running the project after the amount of the project has been increased. The court should review decision about amount and time period.

CJP remarked I will not give decision on any matter which involves money. Forget it that I will decrease Rs 17 billion to Rs 10 billion. You did it good that petitioner brought the case to high court.

The court disposed of the review petitions of CDA and hotel owners being ineffective.
