SHC invalidates Sindh Local Govt Ordinance

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Monday declared null and void amendments in Sindh Local Government Ordinance.

The Division Bench of the SHC announced its verdict on 10 petitions filed by various political parties, including MQM and Jamaat-e-Islami.

The court ruled that Sindh Local Government (third amendment) Ordinance has been passed by the Sindh Assembly unlawfully and all amendments in the ordinance are illegal.

In its decision, the court directed Sindh government’s concerned authorities to approach the court before future amendments in the local government law.

The Division Bench of the Sindh High Court in its short order declared amendments in the Sindh Local Government Act-2013 as unconstitutional and illegal.

MQM‚ PML-N‚ PML-F and others had challenged the delimitations in the province made under the amended Sindh Local Government Act-2013.

The Division Bench of the Sindh High Court was headed by Justice Sajad Ali Shah.
