SHC issues contempt of court notice to SIndh government, EC for not holding LB polls

KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued contempt of court notice to Election Commission (EC) and Sindh government on not holding Local Bodies (LB) polls.

The court directed EC to write new letter to Sindh government for holding LB polls.

Mehmood Akhtar Naqvi the petitioner took the plea LB polls are being stopped on the pretext of demarcation of constituencies. Sindh government wants to devour annual budget of Rs 78 billion. The result of population census has not been issued so far. The court had issued order in February which has not been implemented so far.

The representative of statistics department told the court government has constituted the committee. The result of population census will soon be decided in the light of recommendations of the committee.

Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar inquired from the counsel for EC you will hold LB polls till what time.

The court while seeking reply from the concerned authorities adjourned the hearing of the case till December 15.
