Short and long term plan evolved for dumping solid waste in foot-hills of Margalla: CDA tells SC

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Tasadduq Hussain Jillani has sought follow up reports on quarterly basis from chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) on dumping of solid waste in foot-hills of Margalla.

CJP gave these orders during the course of hearing of notice taken by him on press clipping of a local English daily with regard to dumping of solid waste of city by CDA in the foot-hills of Margalla

The CJP had directed chairman CDA to hold meetings with DG Environment Protection Agency and submit a detailed report in this matter.

The Director General (DG() CDA submitted the report Wednesday.

The court was informed through the report that short and long term plan have been evolved for dumping solid waste. The site will be levelled and decontaminated. A thick layer of fertile soil will be laid out and tree plantation will be carried out. Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency will periodically monitor air quality. Recycling industry will be encouraged to utilize recoverable material. The organizations working in the field of Environment Protection are being approached for preparing a plan for possible area of garbage and for recycling as well.
