Shortfall increased to 1,700MW

ISLAMABAD: The electricity shortfall in the country has surged to 1,700MW, resulting in increase in the duration of power outages in cities and villages across the country.

Sources in the National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) told shortfall increased due to reduction in IRSA indents during annual canals closure. Power generation stood at 9,500 megawatt against a demand of 11,200mw. This situation eventually leads the system with a total shortfall of 1700MW.
The source told that power generation through hydel, thermal and Independent power producers (IPPs) stood at 1350 mw, 1750mw and 6400mw respectively.

According to the power sector sources, power supply situation may be worthier worst for domestic consumers in coming few days with decrease in the mercury. Also, they said, power supply to the prime users of textile industry has also been reduced by another two hours and further is on the way in the days ahead.
