Sindh govt bans pillion riding in four cities on Chehlum

Karachi: Sindh government on Thursday announced imposition of ban over dual riding in four major cities of the province during the ‘Chehlum’ fortieth day of martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain.

The department of interior affairs Sindh has announced imposition of ban on pillion riding of motorcycle in Sindh including Sukkur, Khairpur, Hyderabad and Karachi keeping in view worsening law and order situation.

The decision would be applicable in the specific cities during December 23 to 24 while a formal notification has been issued Thursday.

Sindh Government has also decided to suspend mobile services on day of Chehlum to avoid any unwanted situation.

The application timings will be from December 23rd at 12:00 midnight till 12:00 midnight of December 24.

Old citizens, women, children, journalists and security officials would be exempted from the ban.

Sectarian violence increased in recent days across the country. Three high profile Shia and Sunni leaders have been targeted in Lahore and Karachi in last two weeks while on 10th Moharam day of Ashura a dozen people mostly Sunni were killed in sectarian violence in Rawalpindi which boosted hatred among two sects.

A suicide attack left 4 people dead and wounded 14 others outside Imam Bargah two days back.

Taliban and extremist sectarian groups like Lashkar-e-Jhangvi have threatened attacks on Shia community after Rawalpindi incident.

Security of all worship places of Shia community have been put on high alert in wake of Chehlem.
