Speakers call for implementing Quaid-e-Azam’s vision on democracy, rule of law

Islamabad : Speakers at a day-long seminar held here at Allama Iqbal Open university(AIOU) here on Monday paid rich tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and called for implementing his vision on Pakistan’s ideology and establishment of true Islamic Welfare State.

The seminar comprises three sessions was attended by a cross-section of the people including parliamentarian, intellectuals, educationists and journalists. The Vice-Chancellor, AIOU Prof. Dr. Nazir Ahmed Sangi presided over the seminar.

Speakers included prominent journalist, Idrees Bakhtiar, Justice Shahzado Shaikh, MNA Imran Zafar Laghari, Prof. Dr. Anees Ahmed, Vice-Chancellor Riphah University, Prof. Dr. Azhar Hameed, Naseem Ahmed Usmani, Chairman, Pakistan Yakjehti Council and Muhammad Qasim Haider, Director IET.

The speakers called for mobilizing the civil society, especially the youth to promote ideology of Pakistan as conceived by Quaid-e-Azam in his various speeches. They said that Pakistan ideology was based on pure democracy, where the Muslim could able to get their basic human rights and social justice. The establishment of Pakistan, they said was a result of a political movement that aimed at providing equal opportunity of socio-economic justice to all segments of society.

Imran Zafar Laghari, MNA emphasized that the nation must not involve itself in conflict and confrontation on ideology of Pakistan, rather all political and religious parties should work untidily to get rid of problems like extremism and economic disparity.

He said establishment of a true democratic setup in the country was the need of the hour, in according with the vision of Quaid-e-Azam. This he said is the only way out to improve living conditions of the people and realize the dream of establishing a strong and prosperous Pakistan. “ We should go for a change through a ballet not bullet while working for development of the country, “ he added..

Mr. Idrees Bakhtiar said that Quaid[-i-Azam was a great believer of democracy and he strongly advocated for provision of justice, social economic equity to the people, without any discrimination. He said that the country had suffered heavily in the past due to unconstitutional and authoritarian rule that was also contrary to the ideology of Pakistan.

He said that the recent peaceful transfer of power to a elected government was a great victory of democracy. He hoped that in future nobody would be dare to derail the democracy. He appreciated the AIOU for holding the seminar that reflects its commitment to the national cause.

Prof. Dr. Ayub Sabir in his addressed called for implementing true Islamic democracy system in the country. He rejected the impression that Quaid was in favour of secular state in any manner whatsoever.

Justice Shehzad Sheikh emphasized the colonial rule and law must come to an end for establishment of true Islamic Welfare State. He said that Quaid-e-Azam never supported theocracy rather he had been educated for the establishment of Islamic rule and law in the country.

The Vice-Chancellor, AIOU said the University will provide all possible academic support to the youth for promotion of Quaid-e-Azam’s vision about democracy.

The AIOU, he said as a national institution is engaged in developing positive attitude among the youth so that they as a member of the civil society could help in making Pakistan a true democratic country.

The AIOU, he said is promoting ethics and good-values through various academic programmes in order to keep the youth away from undemocratic behaviour. The main focus of our education programme is promoting knowledge, skill and attitude. Today, he said there is dire of tolerance, patience and the spirit of reconciliation for which education is must and we in the AIOU giving priority to spread education in all nook and corner of the country. The Vice-Chancellor said that similar seminar will also be held at Regional Campuses’ level to promote Quaid-e-Azam vision about democracy.
