ISLAMABAD: Police arrested two suspects and recovered a suspected packet near former President Pervez Musharraf’s residence, minutes before his departure for Special Court in high treason case.

Musharraf, accused of abrogating the Constitution and imposing emergency in 2007, will formally be indicted in the case, the first such occurrence in the national history.

Officials said two youths were found roaming near Musharraf’s heavily guarded Chak Shehzad farmhouse in Islamabad. They were shifted to undisclosed location by security forces.

Minutes later, police found a suspected parcel lying in the same area and on the route Musharraf’s was to take to the court. Bomb disposal squad reached at the site to open up the packet.

Yesterday, five locally-made IEDs were recovered near his residence, and another was found last week. At which, the former army chief formally requested for exemption from appearance in court hearings against him, his applications were not accepted.
