ISLAMABAD: Advisor to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs and National Security Sartaj Aziz says it is for the first time that UN General Assembly has passed a resolution saying that the drone attacks are violation of humanitarian law.

Speaking at a programme of official radio‚ he said the resolution has no legal binding‚ but it will have moral pressure on the US.

The Advisor said if America continues to carrying out drone attacks then it will be violation of international opinion.

He said that US may not announce to end the drone strikes but it will definitely have better impact when it will review these attacks.

Sartaj Aziz said now it is not the lone voice of Pakistan against drone attack but it is the voice of the whole international community. He said our bilateral talks in this regard had also impacted as there was 115 drone attacks in 2010‚ seventy in 2011‚ fifty in 2012 and twenty in this year so far. He said there is gradual decrease in the drone strikes.

He said as compared to the previous Government‚ the PML(N) government has taken tough stand on drone strikes since it took over that these are against Pakistan’s sovereignty‚ counter-productive and increasing militancy.

To a question‚ the Advisor said it is a continuous process and the Government will continue its efforts to increase pressure on the US to stop drone attacks.
