Unopposed election of Senate candidates in Punjab is a manifestation of political maturity: Ch Sarwar

LHORE: Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar on Monday said that the unopposed election of Senate candidates in Punjab is a manifestation of political maturity and hoped that the opposition would continue to prioritize national interest over political differences.

He expressed his views during his meeting with Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Khan Bazdar and Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser.

Governor Punjab and Chief Minister Punjab appreciated the Speaker for conducting the proceedings of the House in smooth manner.

According to the details, a meeting was held between Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar, Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Khan Buzdar and Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser in the Speaker’s Chamber, Parliament House on Monday.

During the meeting unopposed election of Senate candidates in Punjab, administrative and Parliamentary matters came under discussion.

During the meeting, Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar said that the unopposed election of Senate candidates in Punjab is a manifestation of political maturity and hoped that the opposition would continue to prioritize national interest over political differences.

He said that the Punjab government wishes to move forward by taking along all political parties. Talking about Senate polls, he said that in the past senate elections were questioned due to the weak democratic process, but the incumbent government wants the Senate elections to be transparent in all respects.

Governor Punjab said that the steps taken to ensure transparency and merit in all sectors during the tenure of Prime Minister Imran Khan are unprecedented. He maintained that the opponents will fail and the PTI government will make the country strong and prosperous.

Punjab Chief Minister, Sardar Usman Khan Buzdar, said that in line with the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan, Punjab is on the path of progress, adding he said, work is underway on development projects of Public to create employment opportunities for the youth. He said that special zones for industrial development in Punjab are being established, which will usher in a new era of development in the province.

Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser said that the Federal government believes in transparency in the Senate elections. The election of candidates on the basis of numerical ratio in the Senate elections in other provinces like Punjab will prove to be a positive step towards transparency.

In the past, the transparency of the Senate elections has been questioned. It is the democratic right of all parties to win seats in the Senate in proportion to their numerical ratio. All political parties and the Election Commission should play their role in bringing transparency in the Senate elections, he added.
