Weekly SPI slashed by -0.39 pc

ISLAMABAD: The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week ended on December 27 registered a nominal decrease of -0.39 percent over the previous week for the lowest income group.

The weekly SPI has been computed with the base year 2000-2001 = 100, covering 17 urban centers and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined. The SPI for the combined group registered decrease of -022 per cent from 209.74 in the previous week to 209.88 in the week under review.

As per available data of Pakistan bureau of Statistics the SPI for the income groups from Rs.8001-12,000, 12,001-18,000, 18001-35,000 and above Rs.35,000 decreased by -0.32 percent, -0.28 percent, -0.22 percent and -0.15 percent respectively.

During the week under review average prices of 16 items registered decrease, while that of 8 items increase with the remaining 29 items’ prices unchanged.
The items which registered decrease are tomatoes, potatoes, onions, sugar, tea (Yellow label), LPG (11 kg cylinder), Gur, Rice IRRI, Egg hen, Mash pulse washed, Red chillies, firewood, wheat flour bag, veg Ghee loose and Moong pulse washed.

Average price of eight items registered including chicken live, Bananas, Garlic, Beef, energy saver, veg Ghee (TIN), milk powered NIDO and wheat.

29 items including rice Basmati Broken, beard plain , mutton, milk fresh, curd, mustard oil, cooking oil, gram pulse washed, salt powered loose, cooked dal plate, tea prepared, cigarette, long cloth, electric charges, gas charges kerosene oil, washing soap, match box, petrol, diesel and bath soap lifebuoy.
