World Women Day celebrated at Radio Pakistan

ISLAMABAD : All the stations of Radio Pakistan organized special programmes to mark women day on March 8, 2019.

During the programmes the role of women in national development was highlighted.  Prominent women from diverse fields participated in the discussion programmes of Radio Pakistan. A special Mushaira in connection with the day was also broadcast from FM 101 channel of Radio Pakistan.

Radio Pakistan’s News and Current Affairs organized a special two-hour special transmission to mark the day. Speaking in the programme Minister of State for Climate Change Zartaj Gul said that the government is taking concrete steps to promote the role of women in the national development. She said that no nation can progress without the effective participation of women.

Taking part in the programme MNA Uzma Riaz Jadoon said that the government is committed for the empowerment of women. She said that the present government has appointed eleven women as Parliamentary Secretaries in different ministries.

Renowned broadcaster Ishrat Saqib said that support of the family is very important for empowerment of women. She said that the male members of her family played a vital role in her success.

In her views, budding poet Izza Anwar said that she got inspiration from her maternal grandfather who was a renowned poet. She also recited her poetry in the program.

Taking part in the programme, Lieutenant Commander Pakistan Navy Javeria Naseem said that women are also at their best in the defence forces. She said that women are not behind than men in any field.

Controller Central Productions Radio Pakistan Shamim Anjum was host of the programme. She said that education is imperative for women to excel in any field. Prominent women from diverse field also participated in the program through telephone and shared their experience. They included Nighat Saeed, Head Gender Cell Election Commission of Pakistan, Dr. Anila Kamal, Head of Psychology Department, Quaid-e-Azam University, Fareeha Idrees, renowned Anchorperson, and Leila Zuberi, famous artist.

At the end, the participants of the program cut the cake in connection with the day. Director News and Current Affairs Javed Khan Jadoon and Controller Coordination News Zuhara Usmani also participated in the cake cutting ceremony.
