RAWALPINDI: Shia Ulema Council (SUC) and Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) on Friday took out a rally in Rawalpindi to observe Yaum-e-Ishq-e-Hussain. As per media reports, hundreds of people attended the rally, which commenced from Liaquat Bagh and culminated at Qadeemi Imambargah.

MWM Secretary General Allama Raja Nasir Abbas said that Rawalpindi violence was a well-planned conspiracy to plunge the country into sectarian riots. He said that the violence was also an attempt to divert people’s attention from talks with Taliban.

The MWM leader accused the Punjab police of arresting innocent people in connection with Pindi violence and said people were being tortured. Speaking on this occasion, MWM’s Deputy Secretary General Allama Amin Shahidi urged all religious sects unite to deal with anti-Pakistan elements. He demanded the government provide fool-proof security to Chehlum processions.
