ISLAMABAD: Former president Asif Zardari could not be indicted by Accountability Court (AC) Islamabad in Polo ground references due to his non appearance in the court.

Farooq H Naik counsel for former president said that his client could not appear in the court for he was facing security threats.

Judge Muhammad Bashir of AC Islamabad took up NAB references including Polo ground reference against Asif Ali Zardari for hearing Monday. But the former president did not appear before the court due to security concerns and proceedings on references could not move ahead.

During previous hearing, the court had directed Farooq H Naik to write a letter to government in connection with security arrangements for Asif Ali Zardari.

Farooq H Naik said request was made to government for providing security.

The court while accepting plea with regard to security arrangements directed the government to provide fool proof security to Asif Zardari.

The court sought report on security arrangements from NAB on the next hearing.

Farooq H Naik requested the court to fix new date for hearing the references. The court adjourned the hearing of the references till January, 9.

The court directed NAB to contact interior ministry and police and inform it about the security arrangements of Asif Ali Zardari.
Asif Ali Zardari will be indicted in Polo ground reference on next hearing.

Talking to media men after hearing of the case, Farooq H Naik said former president was facing security threat, therefore, he could not appear in the court. During the previous three hearing, Asif Zardari did not appear in the court due to life threats.

He said that former prime minister Benazir Bhutto also became target of terrorists due to non provision of proper security. Had proper security been provided to her, she would not have been martyred, he added.

He said that all the cases registered against his client are baseless who had been facing these cases since the last 16 years.
