Jamaat-e-Islami announces sit-in at Islamabad against large level poll rigging during Feb 8, 2024 general elections

LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan has announced to stage sit-in at Islamabad against large level poll rigging during Feb 8, 2024 general elections. In Dir and Karachi, results of won seats of Jamaat-e-Islami candidates were changed. Secretary General Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Ameerul Azim addressing a press conference along with Central Information Secretary Qaisar Sharif demanded of the Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Qazi Isa to immediately form judicial commission to investigate rigging in elections and all proceedings should be shown through media. For the first time, he said Jamaat-e-Islami contested elections on its symbol and manifesto while their vote bank also increased. Ameerul Azim said that Sirajul Haq resigned from his position as emir of Jamaat-e-Islami due to his personal sentiments and own impressions and it would be decided in the central executive committee meeting of JI on Feb 17 that is he asked to continue work or his resignation is accepted. In case, his resignation is accepted then an y member of the central executive committee would be asked to work for interim period. He further said that Jamaat-e-Islami has agreed on taking three measures against rigging according to which all candidates of provincial and national assembly would submit proofs of rigging with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). On Feb 16, one day sit-in would be held on Friday against the fake elections. He demanded of the Chief Justice of Pakistan to immediately establish judicial commission to investigate rigging in elections and all proceedings should be shown through media. He said Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan announced to stage sit-in at Islamabad against large level poll rigging during Feb 8, 2023 general elections so that issue could be resolved through legal means. Ameerul Azim further said that till now no official contact has been made with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI); however, he said Jamaat-e-Islami could help PTI to save its reserve seats and upon need, it could be presented to prove elections riggi ng but Jamaat-e-Islami's credibility would not be allowed to dent. Till now, he said the ECP is silent and it is giving no explanations and added it is helpless before the powerful segments. He said the electoral process for the next emir would be completed in March and for the purpose, election process is underway.
