Umer Sharif laid to rest at Clifton Park graveyard Karachi

Karachi : Asian Comedy King Umer Sharif’s funeral was offered Wednesday at a Clifton park in Karachi and later he was buried next to the grave of Shireen Jinnah, sister of Quad-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah at Karachi’s Abdullah Shah Ghazi graveyard.

Earlier on Wednesday, Umer’s body, draped in Pakistan national flag in was brought to Karachi from Istanbul.

Sharif was on his way to USA for his treatment and breathed his last in Germany where his health had deteriorated on Saturday, four days ago.

According to media reports, Umer Sharif’s body was carried from Istanbul to Karachi via Turkish Airlines Flight TK-708. Before, his body was moved from German capital Munich to Istanbul on Tuesday.

Umer Sharif, 66, was born on April 19, 1955. Umer has been a pioneer of stage acting and made the world to acknowledge his art by bossing comic stage drama industry of specifically Sub Continent and across the world in general.

He received national awards for best director and best actor in 1992 for his drama Mr. 420. He received ten Nigar awards and is the only actor to receive four Nigar awards in a year.

He was also a recipient of the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz for his contributions as a comedian, actor and producer in the entertainment industry.

The veteran actor’s medical condition had become a subject of national concern last month after he made a video appeal to Prime Minister Imran Khan to help him secure a visa to travel abroad for medical treatment.

The federal government had assured him that it would help and the Sindh government also stepped in, sanctioning Rs40 million for his treatment.

Politicos, actors and artists from across the border were seen mourning Umer Sharif’s demise.

Pakistan’s President Arif Alvi, Prime Minister Imran Khan and his cabinet members, heads and leaders of opposition parties and almost every prominent artist from media and showbiz industry had passed their condolences on Umer’s death.

India’s most famous comic artist Kapil Sharma, as well as Johnny Lever had expressed their grieves terming Umer Sharif as ‘one and only of his kind’.

Umer was indeed one of his own kind, disseminating smiles upon sad faces, and his demise has created an unprecedented vacuum.

Medical team deployed at dengue field hospital in Expo center Lahore

Lahore: Medical team includes 50 doctors have been deployed at dengue field hospital expo center. However, the health experts have emphasized that every fever is not dengue, stressing importance of civic hygiene & precaution.

On directions of Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education, Doctors, nurses and paramedics of Lahore General Hospital have taken over the responsibilities in the Dengue Field Hospital Expo Center set up by the Punjab Government to provide timely treatment to the patients suffering from Dengue Fever.

Talking in this regard, Principal Post Graduate Medical Institute Prof. Dr. Sardar Muhammad Al-freed Zafar said that more than 50 employees of LGH will perform their duties in the Dengue Filed Expo Center, including consultants, medical officers, nursing staff, lab technicians and paramedics.

Talking to the media, he said that the war against dengue could not be won without raising public awareness, adding that social organizations and media had to play their full role in this regard. Prof. Al-freed added that the arrangements made by the CM Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar and Provincial Health Minister Dr. Yasmeen Rashid, for the extensive medical examination of dengue patients at the Expo Center are commendable.

Principal PGMI said that as per the guideline of the Health Department, medical and diagnostic facilities are being provided to the patients in LGH free of cost and all the employees including the administration will remain alert till the end of the epidemic of dengue.

He said that every fever is not dengue, citizens should not miss the opportunity of cleanliness and precaution.

While appreciating the initiative of this field hospital, Prof.Al-freed urged the people to avoid quacks in case of dengue and contact nearest hospital immediately so that they can get rid of this disease as soon as possible and its proper treatment could be ensured as well.

Fayyazul Hassan Chohan sacked once again

Lahore : Former Special Assistant to the Chief Minister (SACM) on Information and Special Initiatives Hasaan Khawar hasreplaced Fayyazul Hassan Chohan as the Punjab government’s spokesperson, as a result of a move by the Punjab government, shuffling Fayyaz ul Hassan Chohan from his post for a third time.

Chohan was appointed as Spokesperson to Punjab government a week after Firdaus Ashiq Awan had resigned from the very post in August, earlier this year.

Chohan had first resigned as the provincial information minister in March 2019, amid intense criticism over his derogatory remarks directed against the Hindu community. He had then made a comeback as the Punjab information minister after nine months in December that year, only to be removed almost after a year in November 2020, when Awan was notified as the SACM on information.

Federal Information and Broadcasting minister Fawad Chaudhry on Wednesday took it to twitter and congratulated the newly appointed spokesperson to Punjab government.

“Congratulations Hasaan Khawar, very well deserved appointment. Wish you all the best.” Tweeted the federal minister, posting a notification of the move.

Fayyaz ul Hassan Chohan on the other hand while talking to reporters showed his incognizance with the move and said that this is the jurisdiction of Chief Minister to appoint anyone to this post.

Governor Punjab says Pakistan Army is the guarantor of national security

Lahore: Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar has said that Pakistan Army is the guarantor of national security and those who conspire to weaken national institutions cannot be the well wishers of the nation.

“Kamyab Pakistan program is a historic initiative of the government. It is the responsibility of every Pakistani to play his role in the development and stability of the country.

Pakistan is currently facing many challenges which can be overcome by forging unity among our ranks. He stated this while talking to overseas Pakistanis living in Saudi Arabia.

Chaudhry Sarwar said that Pakistan has the best Armed forces in the world who have thwarted the plans of terrorists and enemies on all fronts, adding that 220 million Pakistanis are proud of the Pakistan Army.

He said that the opposition parties should also give priority to national interest over personal and political interests.

The governor said that it is the responsibility of every Pakistani to play his role in the development and stability of the country, adding that Pakistan is currently facing many challenges.

He underlined the need to forge unity amongst ourselves to confront the challenges.

He said that the PTI led government’s initiatives like Ehsas Program, Successful Youth Program and ‘No One Sleeps Hungry program’ launched under the leadership of Imran Khan are aimed at serving humanity, adding that no political discrimination is being made and all public welfare schemes are running in a fully transparent manner.

He said that all resources are being utilized for the development and prosperity of the people.

Governor Punjab said that the government believes in the rule of law and order and the work being done to strengthen the institutions in Pakistan is unprecedented and the present government is using all its resources to solve the problems of overseas Pakistanis. He said the government is providing special incentives and security to the investors.

Chaudhry Sarwar said that Punjab Water Authority has started work on 1500 projects to provide clean drinking water to the people of Punjab, adding Water Authority and NGOs will jointly provide clean drinking water to 15 million people in Punjab in current year.

Father allegedly tortures son to death

LAHORE: A 9 months old baby son has been allegedly killed by his father in the area of Sanda.

Kanwal Shahzadi, mother of 9 months old son has accused that that her husband started his 9 months son on September 30 and later he burnt his body with lit cigarette. When shed moved ahead to save her son she was also subjected to torture and she fell unconscious.

She said that the child was taken to hospital in the state of unconsciousness When she returned home from hospital she was told that her son has died and he has been buried.

Police have registered murder case against the father of 9 months child.

Govt should file Pandora Papers Reference in Supreme Court & follow directions of SC on JIT & TORs: Liaqat Baloch

LAHORE : Deputy Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan and former parliamentary leader Liaqat Baloch has said that dialogue is the only peaceful way for peace and stability but the interior minister has exposed the prime minister’s announcements by announcing his ignorance of peace talks. Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid, who is very knowledgeable and influential, has discredited Prime Minister Imran Khan’s claim to take credit for the peace talks. The one who will pave the way through negotiations will also take credit.

Liaqat Baloch said that the ‘successful program’ of the Prime Minister is a failed program like the yellow taxi, green tractor, cheap bread and cheap bazaar schemes of the previous governments. For the ‘successful program’, it was first announced that Rs. 37 trillion would be allocated to assist 7 million families, but at the beginning, Rs. 14 trillion were announced for only 3 million families. The Corona (Covid-19) relief program also collapsed. This is also Khan’s aerial program.

Liaqat Baloch said that the national economy suffers from price hike, unemployment, inflation, rising electricity, gas, petrol prices and the worst debt burden. An election plan based on national priorities and national consensus is the need of the hour to save the people from life of humiliation.

Liaqat Baloch said that Imran Khan’s governmental, unilateral, hasty action on Pandora Papers has raised suspicions. The government should file Pandora Papers Reference in the Supreme Court and follow the directions of the Supreme Court on JIT and TORs. Until the investigation is completed, ministers, government and military officials should be removed from their offices.

He said that Jamaat-e-Islami will knock at the door of the Supreme Court and the people against the Panama Lakes, Pandora Papers and the bribery of loan waivers, corruption, abuse of power. Protection of the corrupt mafia under the government umbrella is deepening inflation, unemployment, continued rise in electricity, gas, petrol prices, economic and moral crisis.

SCCI slams unlawful actions against small manufacturing units in Peshawar

Peshawar: Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) President Hasnain Khurshid Ahmad has expressed grave concern over harassment, issuance of illegal notices and unlawful actions on pretext of tax collection and floating environmental rules by the departments concerned during crackdown on small manufacturing units in Peshawar.

The SCCI chief asked the provincial government, heads of relevant institutions and high-officials to take immediate notice of unlawful actions, demanding to ensure implementation of business-friendly policies and facilitating the business community for promotion of industrialization in the province.

He expressed his concerns during his meeting with a delegation of the Small Industrial Estate Association Kohat Road Peshawar, which was led by former president SCCI Engineer Maqsood Anwar Pervaiz and president of the association Wahid Arif here at the chamber house on Wednesday.

On the occasion, SCCI chief was apprised about unnecessary crackdowns by sale tax department on small factories, harassment of owners and staff by Environment Protection Agency (EPA), tax departments, unsmooth supply of electricity to small industrial estate Kohat Road Peshawar, imposition of double taxation, unnecessary detention and stoppage of trucks, loaded with raw materials, using in small factories at various police checkpoints.

Khurshid assured small manufacturers of amicable resolution of their issues. He informed the meeting that the Chief Minister Mahmood Khan had already issued directives for formation of a high-powered committee, saying that the body would play its role in resolving the collection of double taxation from Peshawar’s industrial estate and issues relating to EPA.

The SCCI chief said that the business community was not against enforcement of relevant laws and regulations. However, he made it clear that harassment of the community on the pretext of these laws was unacceptable to them.

Besides, he said, the small industries have played a pivotal role towards economic stability and development, and are also a prime source for jobs to many people.

He emphasized the smooth and uninterrupted power and gas supply to industrial estates in Peshawar. He assured the visiting small manufacturers of taking their issues with relevant government bodies and authorities in an effective manner in order to resolve them amicably.

He said the doors are always open for the business community and the chamber will take up their issues at governmental level and relevant departments.

Earlier, the delegation of Small Industrial Estate Association Kohat Road Peshawar formally congratulated Hasnain Khurshid for electing as president of SCCI and expressed hope that the newly-elected cabinet will play an important role in resolution of business community issues.

Training to get accreditation from ISO 9001 started at KTH

Peshawar: The Quality Management Systems has formally launched ISO quality management training for the employees at the Khyber Teaching Hospital.

Doctors, nurses, managerial staff from every department of Khyber Teaching Hospital as well as Dean Khyber Medical College Dr Mahmud Aurangzeb participated in the training session.

PPP leader Yousuf Raza Gillani barred from going abroad being his name on ECL

ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister (PM) and PPP senior leader Yousuf Raza Gillani has been barred from going outside the country.

The PPP while voicing protest against this step by government has said there are two systems and not one in the country. If one former PM can go outside the country despite being on ECL then why not the second former PM.

Gillani was going to Italy to attend a conference but he was stopped at airport from going abroad.

Gillani staff said that he was barred from going abroad being his name in ECL. When immigration was got done at airport then it was said that Gillani name is in ECL.

PPP leader senator Sherry Rehman has said Gillani was leaving for Rome to head Pakistani delegation in the meeting of inter-parliamentary union.
